The Medical Examiner requires a copy of the Death Certificate.
Pacemakers and similar devices must be removed prior to cremation.

INFORMATION TO FUNERAL DIRECTORS IN CASE OF CREMATIONS
When death occurred in Massachusetts:
- Burial permit from place where death occurred.
- Death Certificate.
- Authority to cremate on Form supplied by the Crematory.
- Certificate of Massachusetts Medical Examiner.
When death occurred outside Massachusetts:
- Burial permit from place where death occurred.
- Death Certificate.
- Authority to cremate on Form supplied by the Crematory.
- Transit permit specifying Cremation at Woodlawn Cemetery.
- The certificate of a Medical Examiner in whose jurisdiction the death occurred is acceptable by the Massachusetts Dept. of Public Health.
Massachusetts Law required the lapse of forty-eight hours between death and cremation except in the case of contagious and infectious diseases.
